Safety Window Films

A type of film that is wholly unique in that it is resistant to shattering and breakage

Safety window film is an increasingly popular choice for homeowners and businesses looking to enhance security and protect their spaces from potential threats. This specialised type of window film is designed to reinforce glass, making it more resistant to shattering and breakage.

What is Safety Window Film?

Safety window film is a durable, adhesive film that can be applied to existing glass surfaces to improve their strength and resistance to impact. Typically made from layers of polyester or other strong materials, safety films work by holding shattered glass fragments together, thereby reducing the risk of injury from flying shards during accidents, break-ins, or natural disasters.

Benefits of Safety Window Film

Injury Prevention: One of the most significant advantages of safety window film is its ability to prevent injuries caused by shattered glass. In the event of an impact, the film holds the glass together, reducing the risk of cuts and lacerations.
Enhanced Security: Safety film makes it more difficult for intruders to break through windows, acting as a deterrent to break-ins. The added layer of protection can discourage potential burglars from targeting your property.
Protection from bad weather: In moments of bad weather, safety window film can help protect against flying debris during storms or hurricanes. By keeping glass intact, it minimises the risk of injury from broken windows during such events.
UV Protection: Many safety window films also offer UV protection, blocking harmful rays that can fade furniture, carpets, and artwork. This dual functionality helps to protect both people and possessions.
Energy Efficiency: Some safety films are designed to improve energy efficiency by reducing heat transfer. This can lead to lower heating and cooling costs, making your space more comfortable year-round.
Cost-Effective Solution: Installing safety window film is often more affordable than replacing windows with impact-resistant glass. It provides a strong level of protection without the high costs associated with new window installations.

Applications of Safety Window Film

Residential Properties: Homeowners can benefit from safety window film in high-risk areas such as ground-level windows or patio doors, where the potential for break-ins is greater.
Commercial Buildings: Businesses often use safety film in offices, retail stores, and restaurants to protect employees and customers from potential hazards associated with glass breakage.
Schools and Educational Institutions: Safety window film can enhance security in schools, helping to protect students and staff from potential threats. It can also be used to help communicate key safety messages also.
Public Spaces: Libraries, community centres, and other public venues can use safety film to create safer environments for visitors.

Installation tips

Installing safety window film can be a straightforward process, but here are some tips to ensure a successful installation:

1. Choose Quality Film: Look for high-quality safety window film that meets industry standards for strength and durability. Research different brands and read reviews to find the best option for your needs.
2. Measure Accurately: Take precise measurements of your windows to ensure you purchase the correct amount of film. It’s a good idea to order a bit more to account for mistakes.
3. Prepare the Surface: Clean the glass thoroughly to remove any dust, dirt, or grease. A clean surface is crucial for proper adhesion.
4. Use Soapy Water: Mist the window with a soapy water solution before applying the film. This allows for easier positioning and adjustments during installation.
5. Smooth Out Bubbles: Use a squeegee to push out any air bubbles as you apply the film, starting from the centre and working your way to the edges for a smooth finish.
6. Allow for Curing Time: After installation, let the film cure for a few days before cleaning the windows. This allows it to adhere properly and ensures optimal performance.
